The London Confucius Institute is a non profit making organisation that aims to promote Chinese language learning and teaching and the understanding of the Chinese culture in the United Kingdom. It also endeavours to facilitate research activities in the above areas and cultural and education exchanges between Britain and China.
Set up under an agreement between Hanban (Office of Chinese Language Council International) and SOAS, The London Confucius Institute offers courses and engages in various activities either independently or jointly with SOAS Language Centre by drawing upon the expertise and resources of its partner institutions - SOAS in London and Peking University in Beijing.
伦敦孔子学院是以促进中国语言文化在英国的传播为目的的非营利性社会公益性机构，学院也致力于推动有关领域的研究及英中两国间的文化教育交流。
伦敦孔子学院由中国国家汉语国际推广领导小组办公室与伦敦大学亚非学院签署协议合作建设。伦敦孔子学院借助其办学合作单位北京大学和亚非学院的资源和专长，以独立或与亚非学院语言中心合作的方式开设有关课程并开展相关的活动。
The London Confucius Institute’s main objectives are:
- to be a leading training organization for teachers of Chinese at different levels in the UK
- to be a course and program designer and examiner for institutions who run or plan to run courses in Chinese language or language & culture
- to be a valuable resource for teachers of Chinese to strengthen their teaching and research, as well as for learners of Chinese
- to obtain useful information and materials for their learning
- to be a major platform of information and materials about Chinese language, culture and society for all who are involved or interested in the area
The London Confucius Institute aims to achieve its objectives by engaging in following activities:
- providing Chinese language and culture courses to meet different needs at different levels
- organising teacher training courses and professional development programs for teachers of Chinese at different levels
- conducting HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) and Business HSK
- providing information services and resource assistance to promote and support the learning and teaching of Chinese in the UK
- organising lectures, seminars, and workshops on Chinese culture and society
- promoting the learning of Chinese and understanding of Chinese culture through activities organised by LCI China Club in collaboration with other organisations
- developing teaching and learning materials for use in non-Chinese environments
- engaging in surveys and research of teaching and learning of Chinese in the UK
- disseminating materials and information on the teaching and learning of Chinese
- providing consultancy services on study programs in China
