Wisdom Quotes and Bible Verses About It
Intelligence observes all nonsense but wisdom chooses to not observe some of it. Wisdom is a very precious asset and the person who owns it is indeed blessed. But how to get wisdom?
In His teachings Jesus Christ said:"Ask and you shall receive", therefore when it comes to wisdom, the ask–receive principle remains unchanged: "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt…" James 1:5,6b
"To understand reality is not the same as to know about outward events. It is to perceive the essential nature of things. The best-informed man is not necessarily the wisest. Indeed there is a danger that precisely in the multiplicity of his knowledge he will lose sight of what is essential. But on the other hand, knowledge of an apparently trivial detail quite often makes it possible to see into the depth of things. And so the wise man will seek to acquire the best possible knowledge about events, but always without becoming dependent upon this knowledge. To recognize the significant in the factual is wisdom." Dietrich Bonhoeffer
"... For wisdom is protection just as money is protection, But the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the lives of its possessors." Ecclesiastes 7:12
"Without courage, wisdom bears no fruit." Baltasar Gracian
"... The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; And with all your acquiring, get understanding." Proverbs 4:7
"The function of wisdom is to discriminate between good and evil." Cicero
"... The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, And his tongue speaks justice.
Psalm 37:30
"... The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding" Isaiah 11:2
"... From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to give you the wisdom you need for salvation through faith in the Messiah Jesus." 2 Timothy 3:15
"... Give thought to what I say; for the Lord will give you wisdom in all things." 2 Timothy 2:7
"One of the greatest pieces of economic wisdom is to know what you do not know." John Kenneth Gilbraith
"It is no longer enough to be smart -- all the technological tools in the world add meaning and value only if they enhance our core values, the deepest part of our heart. Acquiring knowledge is no guarantee of practical, useful application. Wisdom implies a mature integration of appropriate knowledge, a seasoned ability to filter the inessential from the essential." Doc Childre and Deborah Rozman
"The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook." William James
"The truest greatness lies in being kind, the truest wisdom in a happy mind." Ella Wheeler Wilcox
"Speech is for the convenience of those who are hard of hearing; but there are many fine things which we cannot say if we have to shout." Henry David Thoreau
"It is characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things." Henry David Thoreau
"Take rest. A field that has rested gives a beautiful crop." Ovid
"Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life." Immanuel Kant
"It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err." Mohandas K. Gandhi
"Wisdom consists of the anticipation of consequences." Norman Cousins
"Patience is the companion of wisdom." St. Augustine
"The beginning of wisdom is found in doubting; by doubting we come to the question, and by seeking we may come upon the truth." Pierre Abelard
"I hope our wisdom will grow with our power, and teach us, that the less we use our power the greater it will be." Thomas Jefferson
Once again, if you want to eat the sweet and desirable fruit of wisdom, don’t let anything else but God be your source of wisdom. Ask Jesus Christ to give you His wisdom and He will!
Stephen Covey puts it in a nutshell: "Whatever is at the center of our life will be the source of our security, guidance, wisdom, and power." Don’t let anything less than God be the center of your life because everything else is subject to destruction and death. God alone is everlasting, unchanging, full of love and compassion as we have all seen it in His Son Jesus Christ. Ask God for wisdom!
